About Us
Johnsons Dietary Provisions was founded in 2005 by Helen Pengelly who was diagnosed as a coeliac in 2003 as a result of the difficulties she encountered trying to find appetising gluten-free meals and products. Her grandfather Thomas Johnson was also a coeliac and her son Joe was diagnosed with the condition in 2007, so she has over 30 years’ knowledge and understanding of the difficulties that people face if they need to follow a special diet. Thomas was not diagnosed until he was in his 70s and lived on until 1992 when he was the grand old age of 88. We attribute the fact that he survived so long (albeit in ill health for many years before his diagnosis due to ignorance of the condition) to his natural diet - home grown vegetables and unprocessed food. Sadly many gluten free and other 'free-from' products on the market today are highly processed, full of additives and are not beneficial to the health of anyone, let alone people with auto-immune diseases such as Coeliac Disease and Multiple Sclerosis or other conditions like Autism and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Our aim is simple - to provide a source of quality ‘free-from’ food and drinks that are as natural as possible to consumers and businesses alike. All our gluten free products are wheat free too - WE DO NOT STOCK ANY PRODUCTS THAT CONTAIN CODEX WHEAT STARCH. We are aware that people are becoming more conscious about where their food comes from so we source food that is as unprocessed and free of artificial additives and preservatives as possible. We live the life - if we won't eat it ourselves we won't stock it! We favour smaller or more ethical producers often run by people who have special dietary requirements themselves and who understand the importance of good nutrition. Our ever-growing range of quality products does not only cater for gluten-free diets, but other allergies and special diets such as nut-free,wheat-free, dairy-free, egg-free and diabetic and vegan diets. We have launched this site to enable people to reach us 24/7 from the comfort of their own home. As well as expanding our Online Store, we will be expanding the site contents to provide a one-stop source on useful information, health tips and recipes.
